Charles V and the Hapsburgs

In the court of Charles the Fifth, he is the ruler of half of Europe, the most powerful monarch since the emperors of Rome, and the last powerful holy Roman Emperor. He and his court tried to rule the world with Spain, Netherlands, Austria, Hungary, Half of Italy, Half of Germany, and the New World in their hands. However the threats posed by the Ottoman empire at its zenith, the rise of protestantism, and the formidable opponent, Francis I of France, stood in opposition to a Europe unified by the Hapsburgs catholic dynasty. In facing these challenges Charles the V and his court experienced rebellion, war, and financial ruin in playing the complicated European political game of alliances, betrayals, and military campaigns.
