The Great Game: Tsarist Russia and Edwardian England

The Great Game is the struggle between the Russian and British Empires for dominance in Central Asia and the world. A fading empire strains to recapture the glory of its past, while the world's preeminent power fights to retain the imperial dominance it brandishes at the dawn of the new century. While both great nations jockey for influence abroad, they face looming crises on the homefront where democrats and nationalists alike are challenging the power structures which now seem anachronistically multinational and aristocratic. The ideological struggles of the 19th century and the emerging power struggles among the major European powers will come to a head as the Ottoman Empire, "the sick man of Europe," continues to collapse. To add to the tensions, there are few remaining portions of Africa and Asia yet to fall under European control, while the competition increases with both Germany and the US entering the race. Empires may fall or be born anew, all as the Great Game rages.
