With the threat of the Warsaw Pact long gone, NATO stands as the most powerful collective-security alliance in the world. However, the difficulties that NATO faces today are no longer the same as the old conventional war it was designed for. Instead NATO faces today’s world of non-state terrorist actors and developing world powers. These are the issues that must be addressed if NATO is to remain preeminent.
